Worm farming

Worm farming can be done by anyone, but why and how? Have a look at this picture and discuss what you know about what worms do?

Here is a timelapse video of worms doing their job in a worm farm https://youtu.be/n9Mnf9ysNSs

At school we have a hungry bin here is how it works https://youtu.be/J-GgaOx68xQ

You can have a hungry bin or you can make a worm farm at home for very little cost. Google YouTube for ideas and videos to show you how to do this.

While watching these videos we need to understand a few words, here is our...
Worm farming glossary

So let's make a plan for Ponsonby Primary school:

Think:
Why should we use our worm farm?
If we use our worm farm what should we put in it?
What can't we put in it?
We need to make a sustainable plan. That means a plan that works all the time and is do-able!
How will we collect worm food?
What will we do with the castings?
Who will be responsible at holiday times?
